About Shirley

I have always been passionate about painting and achieving a degree in Fine Art helped me to develope my practice. I have been inspired by the great Monet and Turner, and influenced by the natural world. My artwork aims to capture botanical forms through the lens of abstract paintings.

My intention is not to replicate the appearance of specific botanical subjects but to use intuitive strokes and layered applications of paint to allow the qualities of the medium to guide the composition. Colours collide and blend, creating unexpected harmonies and tensions, while gestural strokes evoke the dymanic feel and movement found in nature.

Ultimately, my abstract floral paintings are not about depicting specific flowers, but about evoking an emotional response.
